Ceramic artist Yu Tanaka's work "tsutsusumimono" on special exhibition at Gallery Rin

Our gallery is specially exhibiting works by Yu Tanaka, a ceramic artist based in Kyoto.

Hand-twisted to express the shape of a ``tsutsusumimono'' (Bundles), refers to the prominent art of wrapping with clothing furoshiki, japanese traditional cloth. Although it is made of ceramic, you can sence the solf touch of cloth texture, and does not look heavy. Please enjoy Ms.Yu Tanaka's delicate and dynamic works, which are attracting attention all over the world. Our gallery is honored to have such a special exhibition opportunity.

The work on display this time was created in 2019 as a companion piece to the work housed in the Seattle Art Museum in the United States.

Yu Tanaka Profile

Instagram @yutanaka89

Born in Ehime Prefecture in 1989.

In 2013, graduated from Kyoto Saga University of Arts, majoring in crafts.

Currently, he has a studio in Kyoto where he makes pottery and is enrolled in the ceramics department at Kyoto City University of Arts.

He develops his ideas from the space contained in ceramics and the hand-finishing technique, and creates shapes that look like something wrapped in cloth.

Major exhibitions include ``16th Paramita Ceramics Award Exhibition'' (Paramita Museum, Mie, 2022), ``Pureform'' (Art Gallery of South Australia, 2022), ``Toucher le feu. , France, 2022) etc. His works are collected in museums both domestically and internationally.

When I tell people who visit the gallery that this is a piece of ceramic, they all say, ``I thought it was wrapped in cloth!'' Even when you look at it right next to it, you don't think it's pottery at all. There are many people who want to check it out by touching it with their hands. (Unfortunately, you cannot touch the works.)

Please come and take a look at our gallery.

Please check the calendar on the website for Gallery Rin store business days.
